Last year, more alumni than ever gave to Knox College in response to Duke '74 and Nancy Petrovich's $100,000 Challenge. Many of them also shared their reasons for giving. Their notes are below.

More Reasons Why Alumni Give To Knox ...
"I was only able to stay for my first two years of college (and then had to transfer), but my Knox experience -- from professors whose teachings still resonate with me today to the lifelong friendships I formed -- was the best anyone could have wished for. I was a scholarship recipient and want to make that possible for someone else."--Kathleen Deutsch '70
"Both of us, Logan (Bud) and Dorothy Wharton, both Class of '55, were recipients of scholarships while we were students at Knox. Bud was a waiter in the boys' dorm, and I was a waitress in the girls' dorm, back in the days when students were served at tables in the dining rooms, family style, gracious living.
"Also, I was given a job at the Alumni Office. If it hadn't been for all this financial assistance, neither of us could have afforded a college education. We will be ever grateful for this chance to lift ourselves up by our bootstraps. Not in Bud's case, but in mine, I was the first person on either side of my family to graduate from college.
"We have contributed to Knox every year since graduation. I think we began with $5! Our debt to Knox can never be repaid." -- Dorothy Wharton '55
"A world without breakfast bagels is one I don't wish to be in ..." -- Emily Jensen '08
"Insofar as you do not specify a minimum contribution, but rather just require a minimum number of bodies giving something, then I'd be happy to get in the line of bodies hopefully of sufficient number to relieve old Duke of his $100,000." -- Stephen R. Burns '69
"I continue to value the quality of education I received at Knox. Twelve years later, it continues to set me up for life-long professional/personal success!" - Amy Ferrero '97
"I love Knox! I had a great experience. I have many friends for life from my Knox years. For the last two weeks, Knox has been calling me and I keep missing the calls!" --Cara Novy '02
"Knox prepared me for the fast paced, ever changing world that every one of us is challenged to succeed in when graduation day arrives. Knox has prepared me for the challenge like no other college in the nation could have." -- Ryan Switzer '07
"I give to Knox to help support, in a small way, a college that provided me with enough financial aid scholarship/grants that I was able to afford an incredible education with minimal loans. I come from a lower middle class family and the Knox financial support made a world of difference to me. Thanks!" -- Angela Valetutto '96
